(aka Between-the-Lens Shutter) - A shutter built into the lens as opposed to a lens in the camera body, and situated between two lens elements. Most cameras have shutters located in the camera body, known as focal-plane shutters. Leaf shutters have moveable overlapping leaves that open and close.
